Date Of Visit: August 19, 2017
Location: Eastern States Exposition Center, Avenue Of The States, 1305 Memorial Ave, West Springfield, MA
Cost: Free
Parking: There is ample parking located at the entrance
Dog Friendly: Yes
Website: Wheels N Waffles
Highlights: classic cards dating back to the early 1900s, waffles
Tips:
- The “Avenue of the States” (where the event was held) got the name because it has a replica of each state’s house of each state in New England on its premises
- The Wheels & Waffles event is usually held at the Eastern States Exposition Center twice each summer, annually
What goes better together than wheels and….waffles? Well, that was what was on the menu at the Eastern Exposition Center last month.
There were some novelty card there too like this “General Lee” Dukes Of Hazzard replica car.
And this replica of Herbie The Love Bug
If only I was better at identifying cars with the years they were built. Unfortunately, that’s not my forte. But, I still appreciate the curves, style and power of these vehicles.
Look at those fins and designs. Those beautiful, beautiful fins…
Not all of the cars were from the 50’s and 60’s. In fact, some of you may have owned some of these more recent classics.
I’ve always loved long, shapely cars. So, of course this was my favorite.
Of course, as the name of the event suggests, there waffles provided by the Storrowton Tavern.
The “Avenue Of The States” didn’t get its name by accident. The grounds have a replica of each original state house for each of the six New England states. Below is the original state house of Massachusetts.
Here is what the Boston State House actually looks like (courtesy of everstockphoto.com)
Wheels & Waffles is a dog friendly event and I’m really not sure what I thought were more beautiful, the dogs or the cars. OK, it was the dogs.
CJ is a 5 or 6 year old Jack Russell Terrier.
Lola is a 3 year old Lab.
Gunner is a 2 and a half year old Lab mix.
Below is a video of the Wheels & Waffles event

What a fabulous premise for the event. I had to read it a couple of times before it sunk in. I can only imagine the replicas are smaller than the originals!?
You certainly ‘get about’..! 🙂
Which would hold greater interest for me? It would have been the dogs; but, my man would have loved the cars.. Haha… Something for everyone; waffles included.

Thank you, Carolyn! Yes, the replicas are not to scale and, as the photo suggests, they do look a little different. I plan on photographing each one individually the next time I visit.
My dad would have loved seeing the cars as well!

My father would have been – as they say in the South – in ‘hog heaven’ at this event.
During his life he owned many incredible cars, but the highlights were a Chord (1930’s classic he located in the desert on a military fly-over, returned to rescue & restore), a ’64 ‘Vette (justified to my mother upon being stationed at Cape Canaveral – salt air wouldn’t rust the fiberglass lol), as well as an early E-Jag (after being stationed in the D.C. surrounds as Congressional Liaison).
He was pretty fond of waffles too! Great photos. Thanks for sharing.

Wow your dad really knew his cars! My dad also had a ‘Vette. But it was a 2000. Hecaleays wanted one and he finally did!
Thank you, Madelyn!

Good question! I have always liked the Stingray, especially the ’63 model. Beautiful vehicle. What about you?

I’ve never really been a car person, personally – not since my first car anyway (Fiat Sport Spider – darling convertible bought used and driven all over the USA during my acting years – sold regretfully when I moved to Manhattan).
As long as the darned thing is reliable, NOT a gas guzzler and has a large trunk and back seat area I’m good. I’d really love to have one of the smaller camper vans, however, so my dog and I could do some traveling relatively cheaply.
Nothing seriously off-road capable, but it would be fun to travel the USA for 6 months to a year as do a couple of my blog-buddies. (usathroughoureyes dot com, for example – their rig would be perfect for me as well.)

Thatt is a cool first car! My first car was a Chevy Citation. Every time I started it I held my breath ( : I would love to take a cross country journey and take photos along the way. Someday, someday!
