Tucked away one of the many side roads of West Springfield, MA, is an unexpected place.
The Maple Brook Farm is home to a variety of alpacas. It’s not everyday that you get to see alpacas grazing from the road so I thought I would stop by.
They tend to cluster together so it was hard to take photos of them alone.

The driveway to the farm is usually open, at least during non holiday daylight hours. When I went to visit, there was no staff or anyone else there but the public is welcome and there is no charge. I just wish I knew what alpacas eat. I would have brought them a treat.
The grounds of the farm are well groomed and there are many structures and statues that liven up the area. It is definitely worth a visit.

I discovered my love of photography a couple of years ago. I know, I got a late start. Now, I photograph anything that seems out of the ordinary, interesting, beautiful and/or unique. And I have noticed how every person, place or thing I photograph has a story behind it or him or her. I don't just photograph things or people or animals. I try to get their background, history or as much information as possible to give the subject more context and meaning. It's interesting how one simple photograph can evoke so much.
I am currently using a Nikon D3200 "beginner's camera." Even though there are better cameras on the market, and I will upgrade some time, I love how it functions (usually) and it has served me well.
The great thing about my blog is you don't have to be from New England, or even like New England to like my blog (although I've never met anyone who doesn't). All you have to like is to see and read about new or interesting places and things.

I went to school at Westfield State and never even knew there was an Alpaca farm in Westfield, the more you know I guess!

My family lives out there and I explore the area quite a bit. But I only found it by accident. Westfield is a pretty big city as you must know so there’s always something different to discover. That is what makes this area so much fun!

I definitely agree, most people only know the downtown area of Westfield but once you get out of the cluttered downtown area there are so many nice houses and places to check out. I used to drive around sometimes just to see what else was in Westfield!

They are very cute! I noticed they were eating grass and hay and a Google search told me that is their main diet. But I didn’t see any other foods mentioned for their diet.

Hello, fellow New Englander! Perhaps someday you’d like to visit us in New Bedford, aka “The Whaling City”. Lots of great historical buildings, a vibrant arts scene, and of course The Largest Fishing Fleet in America!

It’s definitely a great area that I plan to visit in the upcoming year! It has so much his and a lot of great views. The closest I gave been to your area is Fall River (the Lizzy Borden house). That was quite a trip. Love the area and it seems to have a lot of character (and characters lol) I’ll look you up when I get there! Thanks for the recommendation.
