After visiting Plimoth Plantation, the next obvious destination was the Mayflower II. The Mayflower II, an exhibit of the Plimoth Plantation, is a replica of the original Mayflower. It is located only a few miles from Plimoth Plantation in the Frazier Memorial State Pier.
Before you board the boat, you are informed the people on the boat are still living in the 17th century. They are not aware of cellphones, automobiles or any other modern day comforts. There is a replica of the Mayflower Compact in the entrance to the boarding area.
Actors on the boat discuss the duties of crew members and portray people from that era. This man reminded me of James Franco, particularly because of his dry sense of humor.
The quarters of the Mayflower were not the most comfortable. Not exactly Carnival Cruise.
The views from the harbor were very pretty.
Meet Porsche, a service dog I saw as I was leaving the pier.

Looks like a fun day. Haven’t been there since I was a kid. My grandparents live in Plymouth.

We have it super easy now days, the thought of being cold, wet, sunburned as well as rotting from scurvy for 8 months at a time is not my idea of easy. We really are not what we used to be in times gone bye. Tough chaps indeed. Great that people can still see that type of life and what was normal not so long ago. Great Blog. Dan

Thank you! Yes, we have gotten “soft”. I’ve read stories about how people would go shoeless during lean times during the American Revolution and other hard times. We are lucky and we don’t always realize it.

Aint that the truth. Its a national emergency if the water is cut off for a day. Have you seen how people flip out if you remove refined sugar or bread from their diet. Most people I know cant even function without there daily coffee fix. Take something really simple that you may take for granted and try not use it for two days i.e. your car or your cell phone. Its a laugh. If you really want a challenge try only eat what you can find in your day.Nothing from the shops or the house. Most people cant do it.The longest lost at sea survivor was around 72days alone in a life raft. Try float around for one day at the beach. I cant tell you how the old tough guys impress me. True grit.To most people out there all they see is a old boat, all clean and with a fresh coat of paint. What I see is true determination and an unrivalled desire to succeed no matter the hardship. Its sad that you never hear the names of the crew that took these epic voyages just the captains. To set sail into uncharted waters with limited food that often was lost to rot in the first month not to mention impending possible attack from SEA MONSTERS, wow indeed (SHIPS OF WOOD AND MEN OF STEEL)

Yes, we definitely like our comforts. That is for sure. Good points. It must have taken courage and a bit of desperation (and probably a little bit of hope and faith as well) to take on a voyage like that.
